WINNING START FOR JUNIOR HURLERS - (Number of times read: 1795)
Jerry O'Mahony | Tuesday 7 June 2011
Junior hurlers started their championship campaign in a very positive note. Darren Sweetnam had the first two points on the board for Dohenys and Newcestown were quick to respond with a point. Patrick McCarthy stretched Dohenys lead further with a well taken point. This helped the Dohenys to settle and be composed and they played a very fast free flowing game of hurling. There were some outstanding individual performances by Vincent Healy, Tom Collins, Jerry McCarthy, Cillian Crowley and David Collins. Darren Sweetnam gave a great exhibition of hurling with some superb scores. Team: Vincent Healy, Tom Collins, Tadhg O’ Leary, Conor Cronin, Dermot Crowley, Jerry McCarthy, Killian Crowley, David Collins, Michael Milner, Conor Collins, Denis Healy, Darren Sweetnam, Brian O’ Sullivan, Pat Collins and Patrick McCarthy Subs: Brendan McCarthy, Clement Deane, Noel Collins
The Senior Footballers are continuing their preparation for their up and coming championship match with Ilen Rovers on 18th June at 7:00pm in Skibbereen.
Lotto Results: There was no winner in this week’s lotto; next week’s jackpot is €1,200. Consolation prizes of €50 went to M O’ Donoghue Ballygurteen, Gerard Cronin Murphy’s Terrace, Cathal Kelly Aras na Locha.
Sam Maguire Notes
Minor footballers are due to play the first round of the championship on 25th June.
U11 hurlers travelled to Blarney. Blarney proved far too strong here.
U11 footballers played Clonakilty and this was a very close contest
U12 footballers were away to Bantry and gave an exceptional performance
U13 hurlers played Kilbree in a league game. This bunch of lads are improving in every game and won comfortably
U14 hurlers were at home to Ahan Gaels and unfortunately were well beaten but without their goalkeepers superb display their defeat would have been much greater.
Just a reminder that the Cul camp is being organised at the moment and anyone interested can contact the officers of the Sam Maguire Club.
