Parish Leagues

The U8 and U10 hurling parish leagues took place on Friday 28th in a majestic floodlit Sam Maguire Park. The lights were the only things shining brightly as 8 teams of U8 and U10’s showed off their dazzling skills in 2 very competitive competitions. The skills on show were a credit to all the coaches involved with Philip Kelleher heading up the U10 coaching team while John Kearney leads the U8 coaching team.

The awards ceremony took place in the Pavilion  with the Derry O’ Mahony trophy being presented to the U10 winning captain Adam Barry by Nora O’ Mahony. The U8 trophy was also presented to winning captain Alex Hurley with all the young lads receiving medals and refreshments also. Well done to all involved.

U16 Hurling County Final

The U16 hurlers put up a very brave display, falling just short against a talented Ballycastle Gaels team in Ballygarvan on Saturday last. Had a Cal Nyhan attempt ended up in the net instead of hitting the crossbar the story may have been different. The game was in the melting pot at half time with Ballycastle Gaels leading 0-8 to 0-6 but despite sterling displays from Jerry Collins, Sean Daly and Barry O’Sullivan Sam Maguires could not get to terms with the opposition and they narrowly lost out on a scoreline of  1-16 to 0-14.

Panel: Barry O’Sullivan, Finbarr Browne, Luke Hurley, Daniel Dullea, Con O’Sullivan, Ellis O’Farrell, Padraig Duggan, Jerry Collins , Peter Collins, Cal Nyhan, Alan Brickley , Andrew McCarthy, Darragh Collins, Sean Daly ,Darragh Kelly, Danny O’Donovan, Aidan McCarthy , Sean Calnan, Padraig O’Sullivan, Jack McCarthy, Piaras Hayes & Micheal Cronin.

Minor Football

“Tús maith, leath na hoibre”. Unfortunately it was Nemo Rangers who made the good start last Sunday in this P1 County semi-final in Cloughduv. Playing with the breeze Nemo lead by 1-4 to 0-1 after 6 minutes and in truth our lads never got going in that 1st half and the lead at half time stood at 7 points Nemo Rangers 1-8 Sam Maguires 0-4

The concession of another goal early in the second half left Sam’s with a mountain to climb. However as is the way with this team they do not know when they are beaten. They mounted a courageous comeback and when Fionn Herlihy raised a green flag in the 49the minute it was game on. The boys in green were piling  on the pressure at this stage and reduced the arrears to 3 pts however the clock was their enemy and the fulltime whistle left the score at Nemo Rangers 2-14 Sam Maguires 1-14.  However all is not lost and this bunch still have a County Hurling final to look forward to v Eire Og next Wednesday 10th in Cloughduv at 7.30.
