Finbarr O’Neill Memorial Shield & Coffee Morning

The annual Finbarr O’ Neill Memorial Shield was played for on Sat 8th September as part of the Sam Maguire Festival Weekend. Sam Maguires U12s football team took on a strong St Colums outfit in testing conditions. The game was very competitive and at the short whistle the home side just shaded it on the score board.

St Colums began to dominate in the second half and were ahead with a few minutes on the clock. Sam Maguires however never gave up and kept playing their fast flowing football and snatched victory with 2 late goals. After this enthralling encounter, players and supporters headed for the pavilion for much needed refreshments provided as part of the annual fundraising coffee morning. Many thanks to all who contributed to making this very important fundraising event a great success again this year.

The players from both teams were presented with medals by Agnes O Neill and winning captain Patrick Collins Sam Maguires was presented with the Finbarr O' Neill Memorial Shield. A great mornings football in honour of a great Doheny/Sam Maguire club man Finbarr O' Neill (RIP).
