PAT SMITH R.I.P. - (Number of times read: 1232)

Friday 31 July 2020

The Doheny GAA Club would like to pay their respects to the late Pat Smith, late of Bantry Rd, Dunmanway, who passed away peacefully at his home in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick on the 19th of July 2020.

Pat played both hurling and football for Dohenys and with Dunmanway Vocational School during his school going years.  The highlights of his playing career was being a member of the hurling team that won the  Cork Southwest Junior Championship in 1963 and  he was involved with the Junior Football team that won the Cork County Junior Championship in 1966  He figured the year previously on the losing County Football Championship team of 1965.

Due to work commitments with the ESB Pat hung up is boots in 1967 but he managed to get back around locally a number of years later to take up an administration role within the Doheny GAA Club as assistant secretary.  One of his lasting legacies was that he was very much involved in the designing and building of the original dressing rooms that are still there today.

Unfortunately for the Club his work took him to Newcastle West where he ended up permanently residing.  Pat was always a Doheny at heart and kept in regular contact with a lot of members and friends down through the years and was never found wanting when it came to supporting various fundraising drives etc.

The Doheny GAA Club would like to offer our deepest condolences to his wife Olive, children Evelyn, Fiona & Padraig and to all the extended Smith family.
