A WORD OF THANKS FROM CLUB SECRETARY - (Number of times read: 754)

Daniel O'Donovan | Monday 1 February 2010

I just want to thank everybody that attended the Doheny GAA Club Annual Dinner Dance on Saturday night. It was marvellous to see such a large turn out, in or around 190 people.  A very enjoyable night was had by all, the food, the music and the company was fabulous.

A special word of thanks to our invited guests, Chairman of the Munster Council Mr. Jimmy O’Gorman and his wife Ann, Treasurer of the County Board Mr. Pearse Murphy, Development Officer of the County Board Mr. Den Keohane, Chairman of the West Cork Board Mr. Declan Walsh and Father Ted Collins.

Congratulations to the Sam Maguire Minor Hurlers (West Cork Minor Hurling Champions), Sam Maguire U16s (West Cork Hurling League Champions), the Doheny Junior Ladies (West Cork Junior Football Champions) and the Doheny Minor Ladies (Runners-up in the West Cork Minor Football Championship).  All the above received medals on the night.

Well done to Fachtna “Abb” McCarthy who won the Club Player of the Year, a very popular player and very deserving of the award.  He gave some fantastic performances in the Junior Championship last year both in hurling and football.  He played in a number of Kelleher Shield games for the seniors most notably against Nemo Rangers where he put in a 5 star performance.  Fachtna always performs when called upon.  He’s a very committed player, very solid and an exceptionally good reader of the game. Congrats again Fachtna!

Well done also to the Development Sub-Committee who won the Club-persons of the Year Award.  The Development Sub-Committee is made up by Kevin Collins, Denis Collins, Pat McCarthy, Barry Collins, Martin Gildea and Dr. Michael Herlihy.  These men are very deserving recipients of the award.  The amount of time and effort that the Development Sub-Committee have put in not alone last year but the last number of years planning and carrying out developments has been enormous.  We now have a fully re-drained main pitch with a state-of-the-art floodlighting system.  This project came in under budget, all works diligently overlooked and all grants efficiently applied for.  Currently the second pitch is under development and there is plans to build new dressing rooms.  Congrats Kevin, Denis, Pat, Barry, Martin and the Doc!

There were a number of presentations made on the night to a number of people for their services either to the Dohenys, Sam Maguires, the Doheny Ladies Club or Cork.  Newly wed couples received a little token from the Club.

Thanks to Martin and all the staff of the Parkway Hotel, to the Dreamers who provided the music, to all the various sponsors of the spot prizes on the night. Thanks once again to all our invited guests and to the members and friends of the Doheny GAA Club for making it a most memorable night.
