Sam Maguires 2-16 Douglas 1-7
A fantastic all round team performance resulted in a comfortable win for the boys in green in this P1 MFC clash in Kilmurry on Wednesday night last. Sams raced into an early lead , points from Bill Murphy, Cullan Barry and Fionn Herlihy (2) saw them lead 0-4 to 0-2 after 10 mins. A Douglas goal after 12 minutes saw them lead for the one and only time over the 60 minutes. Sams replied strongly with points from Fionn Herlihy (6) and Cullan Barry frees and another from Cathal Daly left them back in control at half time 0-11 to 1-4.
Douglas got the first point of the second period however that was as good as it got for them. A point quickly followed by a 2nd goal from the irrepressible Fionn Herlihy put paid to any chance of a Douglas fightback. Sam Maguires assumed total control from there onwards and held Douglas scoreless for the last 20 minutes. Further points from Fionn (2) and Darragh O'Connor put a further shine on the already health scoreline.
Fionn with 2-11 was obviously in top form however the team as a whole functioned very well together, working very hard and showing great cohesion throughout, a testament to the work being done with them by the management team. Well done to all involved.
