MICC, Dunmanway 1 – 11 Coachford CC 0 – 6
A well taken Mark Quinn goal, just before halftime, spurred on MICC to produce a commanding closing half display in yesterday’s Munster Vocational Schools, senior A football semi-final, at Newcestown. With the sides level nearing the end of the first half the Dunmanway students produced a defence splitting move that ended with their outstanding full forward side footing the ball to the net. The winner’s, with Quinn, Eric Crowley and Don O’Driscoll excelling up front, never looked back in a game where Coachford managed just one point from play.
Defences were generally on top early on when Evan O’Sullivan, Daniel O’Connor along with Pádraic O’Connell tested the winner’s at the back but once Ross Crowley along with Donal Rice settled in central pivotal positions the loser’s cutting edge was blunted. Denis O’Keeffe also opened brightly at centre back for Coachford but with Maurice Murphy and Daniel Lordan controlling midfield for the winner’s they were ahead, 1-4 to 0-4 at the break.
It was in the closing half however that we saw the Dunmanway lads at their best with O’Driscoll effortlessly pointing a few 45’s and Quinn only denied a second goal by a top class Mark O’Donovan save. To their credit Pádraic O’Connell and Greg Long led a late Coachford revival but there was no stopping the winner’s from sealing a date with Clonakilty CS in what will be their first ever final appearance in this grade.
