Anna Murphy, Nora Daly, Karen Farr | Sunday 10 October 2010

Doheny u14 girls were chasing the gold at the end of the rainbow in their bid to bring home a long awaited cup in the West Cork C Final. The girls succeeded, and made Doheny Club history as they won the nail-biting final against Rosscarbery on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-5 and thus secured the first underage cup in 18 years. Captain Alannah Hurley proved more than worthy of her title and the game was thrilling from start to finish. In goal was Teegan Hurley from the u12 squad who showed intelligent and skilful talent to control the goal and keep many scores at bay. In the full back line were the strong forces of Michelle Duggan, Tara Murray and Denise O’Donovan who showed remarkable strength to hold off the relentless attacks. In the half back line were Triona Murphy, Ciara Crowley and Melissa Duggan, whose speed and skills dictated most of the match. Midfielders Caroline O’Mahony and Michaela McCarthy made a great partnership and played with purpose and conviction from the minute the ball was thrown in with their ‘never give up’ attitude. The half forward line comprised of Alannah Hurley, Kayleigh O’Driscoll and Dearbhal Kearns who gave a strong and spirited performance. On the attack in the full forward line were Eileen Crowley, Annie Blewitt and Deirdre O’Brien, who had some spectacular scores. A team is not made up of only 15 players and the following girls proved invaluable throughout the season; Helen Crowley, Sinéad O’Connell, Ciara Walsh, Maeve Kingston, Bronagh Kearns, Aoife Galvin and Shannon Garza. These are a wonderful bunch of girls who trained diligently and enthusiastically under the wonderful care of coaches, Niamh O’Donovan, Jerry O’Mahony and Cathy O’Regan. These girls have the potential to continue as a wonderful team for many years to come. Congratulations to all involved from all at the Doheny Ladies Football Club and your supporters. Thank you to all the parents who made it possible for the players to attend training and matches and for your support throughout the year.

U12's

The u12 girls recently played their last game of the season against Clann na nGael in the West Cork C Football Final. They had great support from a large number of parents and club members which added to the excitement of the game. From the throw in, it was a very close and hard fought contest. In centre field, Sinéad O’Connell and Laurie Hayes did a great job. Chloe Young and Kiera Walsh were always dangerous up in the forward line, which resulted in two goals from Chloe Young. Maeve Kingston was outstanding at full back with great support from Bronagh Kearns and Catríona Murray. The match was level with five minutes to go and Clann na nGael scored a point to take the lead. Laurie Hayes was coming through for a point in the dying seconds of the match but the referee blew the full-time whistle in front of the opposition’s goal. Perhaps a draw would have been a fair result for this hard fought match but it just wasn’t to be. The girls finished the season as runners up and should be very proud of their efforts and commitment throughout the year. A big thank you goes to Karen Farr, Martin Hurley and Anthony O’Connell who put in a lot of time and effort during the season and did a wonderful job with the girls. Thank you to all the parents who made it possible for the players to attend training and matches and for your support throughout the year.
