JUNIOR HURLERS PROCEED TO NEXT ROUND - (Number of times read: 857)

Jerry O'Mahony | Tuesday 12 July 2011

Junior A footballers made their exit from the West Cork Junior A Championship on last Tuesday evening. After giving away a penalty in the first half, it was the difference in the score line right up to the final whistle. Doheny’s didn’t put in enough work in the first half and with ten minutes to go in the second half there was two points separating themselves and Ballinascarthy. The lads found it hard to get a few extra scores and Ballinascarthy ran out winners in the finish. Ballinascarthy 1-6, Doheny’s 0-6.
Team: Aidan O Sullivan, Fachtna McCarthy, David Cotter, David O Brian, Liam Rice, Johnny Collins, Noel Collins, Declan Dwyer, Darren Sweetman, James Collins, Barry O Donavan, Brian O Sullivan, Mark Quinn, Darren Kelly, Daniel McSweeney.

Junior Hurlers hit the ground running last Sunday evening. Jerry McCarthy, Darren Sweetman and Brendan McCarthy were quick to get on the scoreboard. Conor Collins scored the side’s only goal in the first half. This was a very good all-round team performance with Denis Healy, Donal O Sullivan and the Collins twins David and Tom giving excellent performances. Clement Deane and Fachtna McCarthy were rock solid in the full back line. The second half was much different as St. James really piled on the pressure but all the lads stood up and were counted. This was win was a great boost to players confidence and the club needed a positive result on this one. Doheny’s went on to win on a score line of 1-15 to 1-8.
Team: Vincent Healy, Clement Deane, Tadhg O Leary, Fachtna McCarthy, Tom Collins, Jerry McCarthy, David Collins, Michael Milner, Noel Collins, Donal O Sullivan, Patrick McCarthy, Darren Sweetman, Conor Collins, Denis Healy, Brendan McCarthy.

Senior Footballers will now play Valley Rovers in a relegation game. This game is scheduled for the end of July but with Valley Rovers having players involved with the Cork Senior and Minor footballers and also involved with premier intermediate hurling it will be hard to finalise a date at the moment.

Just a reminder that the Doheny’s and Sam Maguire’s annual golf classic takes place on August the 27th.

The club is preparing its history of the last 25 years to co onside with its hundred and twenty years as a member of Cumann Luthchleas Gael. The club would more than welcome anyone who would have any information to update the new history book (e.g. photos, match results, or any interesting information).
