Mairead Mawe | Tuesday 29 March 2011

The Doheny Ladies Football season has begun and the first on the playing fields were the U14's. They have 2 league wins clocked up in the past two weeks which is an encouraging start to the season. Their first outing was against Gabriel Rangers in Ballydehob, where they recorded an impressive scoreline of 5-13 to 3-1. They continued their good form with another victory at home against Bandon and emerged as victors with a scoreline that read Dohenys 6-4, Bandon 3-7.

The U16 team played host to Bantry in a West Cork League final held over from last years schedule. The visitors proved to be the stronger team and the Dohenys stuggled to curtail the advances of the Bantry forwards who put pressure on the the Doheny goal from the start. Despite the loss, the manager can take heart from the committed performances shown by all players. The final result was Bantry 6 -11 to Dohenys 3-3.

On Sunday morning last the Junior team had their first outing under new manager Christy O Leary with a fixture against Rosscarbery. It was a disappointing 1st half performance for Dohenys, where Rosscarbery scored some easy scores and looked impressive all over the field. Despite a much improved performance from Dohenys, the Ross side ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 5-7 to 2-7.Training continues on Tuesday and Friday evenings at 7 and new players are very welcome.
