Playing Activities:
The Junior A Hurlers lost to Newcestown on a score-line of 2-13 to 3-12 after extra time in the 1st round of the Junior A Hurling Championship in Enniskeane on Friday evening last. The Doheny Hurlers will be disappointed with this result as they led by 7 points early in the second half and conceded a goal near full time for the game to go into extra time.  The Dohenys were in control of the match for much of normal time but credit to Newcestown they were the better side in extra time, finishing the stronger, even though the Dohenys had their chances to at least level matters in extra time but didn’t avail of them.  Dohenys led at half time of regulation time on a score-line of 0-07 to 0-04 the scores coming courtesy of Brendan McCarthy (2), Patrick McCarthy & Jerry McCarthy 0-04 (2f).  Although it was Newcestown who registered the first score of the 2nd half it was a period of the game when Dohenys completely dominated and it looked like they could run out comfortable victors.  Points from Brendan McCarthy & Jerry McCarthy on either side of a well struck goal from Conor Collins gave the Dohenys a commanding lead.  Newcestown doggedly got themselves back into the game scoring 1-02 of their own until further points from Dohenys Brendan & Jerry McCarthy seem to stem the tide.  However Newcestown kept chipping away at the scoreboard and they got the all important goal on the stroke of full time to force extra time.  With the light fading it was Newcestown who were the brighter side in extra time scoring 1-03 to Dohenys 1-01, the Doheny scores coming from Patrick McCarthy (1 Pt) and a goal from Brendan McCarthy.  The Dohenys will now face the losers of the Bandon/Plunketts tie in the 2nd round. Team: Vicent Healy, Tadhg O’Leary, Tom Collins, Killian Crowley, Donal Rice, David Collins, Noel Collins, Jerry McCarthy 0-07 (0-03f, 0-01 65), Chris Cronin, Brian McCarthy, Alan Sheehan, Conor Colllins 1-00, Eoin Lavers, Patrick McCarthy 0-02, Brendan McCarthy 1-04 Subs Used: Barry O’Donovan, Jamie Carroll, Ross Crowley
The Senior footballers are in action this Saturday evening in Kilmurray at 7.30pm against St. Nicks in the 2nd round of the Senior Football Championship.  The footballers will have to up their performance 100% from the performance against Nemo Rangers in the opening round.  St. Nicks are a physical, dogged side and it’s important the Dohenys play a fast expansive game.  Preparations have gone reasonably satisfactory for this game with wins in recent games, over Laune Rangers in a challenge match and a good win over Carbery Division in the Paddy Minihane Cup semi-final.  Please come out and support the team!
