The 17 year wait is over!

It might have taken 17 years but by hell it was well worth the wait.  The sense of joy & relief was palpable when the final whistle blew in Aughaville last Sunday evening & the Liam Farr Cup was finally coming back to its rightful home.  The Doheny U21 footballers were fully deserved of their 2-08 to 0-09 win over a gutsy Castlehaven team.  The Doheny men’s 1st half display will live long in the memory bank when they powered to a 2-05 to 0-01 lead by half time.  In actual fact Dohenys could have been a lot further ahead such was their dominance.

Credit to the Castlehaven they didn’t throw in the towel & they had a purple patch of their own  in the second half kicking 7 unanswered points but the Dohenys lead was insurmountable & the men in green finished strongly to run out deserved victors.

There’s a great balance to this Doheny U21 team from 1-15 & including all the subs.  It’s right up there amongst the best U21 teams the Club has ever produced.  They work extremely hard for one another, are all naturally gifted footballers & have the right mental attitude.  The team has won this west cork championship the hard way in defeating last year’s champions Ilen Rovers, a strong Clonakilty team in the semi-final & a tenacious Castlehaven team in the final.  They scored a total of 6-26 in the 3no. championship games & didn’t concede a single goal.  A heartiest congratulations to all the players & to the team management of Mark Farr, Jerry O’Mahony, Martin Collins & Tony O’Sullivan.

Lotto:

There was no winner of the Doheny GAA Club’s Lotto Jackpot of €4,800 held on Sunday night last.  The numbers drawn were 19, 22 & 28.   Consolation prizes went to Brian O’Rourke, Lakelands, Judy Kelleher, Main St. & Eileen Swanton, Main St.  The jackpot now stands at €5,000 and the next draw takes place in Wyrnn’s Bar on Sunday next 8th of May 2017.
