With the senior footballers and the two junior football teams after making their exit from the championship, football activity has taken a breather, excluding the Junior 3 footballers who played St. Mary’s in a league game Saturday evening. This was a very young team mainly made up of some of last years and this year’s minors plus a few experienced players. Doheny’s started with two well taken points however St. Marys with the aid of a strong wind came to grips with Doheny’s fast flowing football. Half time scores Dohenys 3pts St. Marys 5pts. This looked as Doheny’s had an uphill battle playing against the strong wind. As the second half progressed Doheny’s were raising to the challenge. With ten minutes remaining Doheny’s drew level. Ten points all. This game was now in the melting pot. Doheny’s showed great character and their will to win and hung on for the last five minutes with one point to spare. This was a great performance by all the players. Doheny’s 11pts St. Mary’s 10pts. Players and selectors got a satisfaction from this achievement.

Junior hurlers are continuing their preparation for their up and coming championship match with Kilbrittain. There is still no date finalised for this game.

Sam Maguire Notes

The minor footballers played Clonakilty. This was a very worthwhile exercise.

The minor hurlers are fixed to play Cobh in Dunmanway on Sunday. Time to be fixed yet. Best of luck to the players and the mentors.

U11 footballers travelled to Legion in Killarney last Wednesday. This was a very good workout. The players and mentors had a very enjoyable evening and were very well catered for by Legion G.A.A. club. This group of players are getting a lot of opportunities to improve their skills and what better way to develop their skills than playing these Kerry teams.

U12 footballers started their league campaign at home against Clonakilty on Monday evening. This is an exceptional group of lads and can hold their own with the best of the teams in their section.

U13 hurlers played Kilmeen/Kilbree on Saturday evening last. This was a very good performance. Playing with the wind in the first half they put down a good marker and went on to finish the second half very strongly. They needed this win to rebuild their confidence.
