U21 A Championship

The Doheny U21 footballers are in championship action this weekend.  The Dohenys are fixed to play Newcestown this Saturday February 1st at 3pm in Enniskeane.

Doheny Dinner Dance

The “Doheny Dinner Dance” was a great success with approx. 150 people in attendance.  The new format of the dinner dance is proving to be a winner with everyone having another enjoyable night.  This year’s social celebrated the successes of the Doheny Ladies winning the Junior West Cork & County Championship & the Minor ladies winning the West Cork football Championship.  Cork GAA Legend Eamon Ryan and sports reporter Ger McCarthy were invited guests on the night and both spoke glowingly of the Club.

As usual there was huge interest in the Player of the Year Award.  The Denis Crowley Perpetual Trophy went to Fionn Herlihy.  Fionn had a fine year in both codes for the Club. He’s an absolute nightmare for any defender to mark with his strong and direct running.  He gave some eye catching displays for both the seniors and u21 teams.  He also played a starring role with the Cork U20s who won the All-Ireland football championship in 2019.  The Club-person of the Year Award went to Fachtna McCarthy.  Fachtna is a very passionate clubman and extremely hard working.  He’s one of the main driving forces in the Club.  He has the unenviable role as fixtures secretary, taking bookings for the pitches, organiser of the Puc Fada competition etc and his carpentry skills are called on time and time again in the maintenance of our facilities.  Nora McCarthy won the Doheny Ladies Player of the Year award and Aine Crowley got the most improved player of the year accolade.

As usual an excellent meal was provided by the Parkway Hotel.  Micheal Collins and The Music Makers provided the music which was lively & energetic & a very pleasant night was had by all!
