Friday 07/06/2019 Carbery- Beara Division 2 Junior Football League- Diarmuid O Mathunas v DOHENYS in Ballinacarriga

In their most recent league game, the Doheny Junior A Footballers had a good win against near-neighbours Mathunas in Ballinacrriga. The league game down originally for Castletownkenneigh was played in Ballinacarriga following a request from Mathunas who play their next Junior A Football Championship game at the venue.

Dohenys led 1-5 to 0-4 points at the break following an excellent display in the opening half playing against a strong wind. The Doheny goal was calmly dispatched to the net by full forward Gareth Crowley following a very good passage of Doheny play. The goal scorer also kicked some excellent placed balls into a challenging wind. Both Cathal Daly and Nathan O Donovan figured prominently playing some very good football. Kevin Cotter and Cian Cahalane defended well in the full back line while Padraig O Mahony read the game well from Centre Back.

Mathunas rallied in the 2nd half but credit to Dohenys- a strong finish saw them pull away from Mathunas. Some excellent points from Cathal Daly, Ray Jennings and Jack O Connell in the closing quarter saw Dohenys win by five  and secure two important league points.

Monday 17/06/2019 Carbery Division 1 Hurling League- Diarmuid O Mathunas v DOHENYS

The Doheny Junior A Hurlers resumed their Junior Hurling League campaign travelling to Castletownkenneigh hoping to finally register some league points. Unfortunately, this was not to be as they faced a much sharper Mathuna's side.

In the First Half, Mathunas dominated particularly in their half-back line and Dohenys struggled to make any inroads with possession either through puck-outs or open-play.

Dohenys on occasions did play some good hurling with Jerry McCarthy scoring a great point after being fed by Bill Murphy following an excellent diagonal clearance from Barry O Donovan.

A good solid defensive display by the 6 backs ensured Dohenys were still in contention at half-time but in truth after the resumption Dohenys never looked like winning the game.

While Gareth Crowley, Aidan O Donovan and Bill Murphy got some good points- Mathunas by and large controlled proceedings in the Second Half. The six point defeat leaves Dohenys in a precarious position at the foot of the table with only two games left to maintain their Division 1 status.

Half Time Score:- Diarmuid O Mathunas 0-7 v 0-5 Dohenys

Friday 21/06/2019 Carbery Division 1 Hurling League- DOHENYS v St. Colums

This original fixture fell by the wayside due to Storm Hannah back in April. Re-fixed on the longest day of the year- Dohenys secured an important win giving them a fighting chance of maintaining their Division 1 League Status.

If they had lost the game- Dohenys would have almost certainly been destined to Division 2 and in an exciting second half where Colums put Dohenys to the pin of their collar- Dohenys prevailed by two points showing great battling qualities.

At the break- Dohenys led by two points- the pick of the points in the First Half coming from Noel Collins, Bill Murphy and Aidan O Donovan (0-2).

A fair game of hurling turned into an exciting contest after Colums-following a goal that should have been avoided - took control of the game in the Second Half.

Dohenys at 6's and 7's for a spell after the goal allowed Colums to tack on points and only for a great steadying score from Ray Jennings and the excellent free-taking of Bill Murphy- Dohenys could have found themselves further behind.

Showing great battling qualities- Dohenys kept in reach of Colums and the introduction of the injured Jerry McCarthy proved crucial to the Dohenys win.

Soon after his introduction McCarthy was extremely unluckly not to score an excellent goal following a great shot on goal. The fortuitious St. Colums goalkeeper not realising the ball had hit off him until a while after the ball had spun out for a '65. Bill Murphy converted the '65 but McCarthy was not to be denied.

Getting the vital Doheny goal-following some excellent individual play- McCarthy somehow managed to make an angle for himself to unleash a rasper of a shot to the St. Colums net.

Dohenys played their best hurling of the year so far in the final ten minutes of the game. Great scores from play by Bill Murphy, Jamie Carroll and Jerry McCarthy saw Dohenys secure the win by two points.

While dependent on other results- a win in their final league game v St. James' in Ardfield should hopefully give Dohenys a chance of maintaining their Division 1 status. Barring those injured- it is hoped that all players will make themselves available for this important fixture.

Stephen Daly, Cian Cahalane, Tadhg O Leary, Jason Daly, Noel Collins (0-1), Sean Daly, Gareth Crowley, Jamie Carroll (0-3, 0-1f), Johnny Kelly, Darragh Collins, Bill Murphy (0-8, 0-4f, 0-1,'65), Aidan O Donovan (0-2), Ross Crowley, Adrian Cronin, Ray Jennings (0-1)

Half Time Score:- Dohenys 0-8 v 0-6 St. Colums

Full Time Score:- Dohenys 1-16 v 1-14 St. Colums
