Thursday 23/05/2019 County Division 3 Football League Douglas v DOHENYS

The Doheny Senior Footballers travelled to the south side of the city to take on fellow Senior Football outfit Douglas. Despite a disappointing result in terms of league promotion- Dohenys can take a number of positives from the performance. On a tight compact pitch against a physically imposing Douglas- Dohenys were slow to settle into the game. Once they did settle- Dohenys did play some good football with the impressive Mark Buckley kicking the pick of Dohenys scores in the First Half.

Douglas' raising of a green flag in the opening quarter of the Second Half  rocked Dohenys but credit to management and the panel of players- Dohenys dominated the final quarter of the game. The last 15 minutes of the game saw good points from Niall Hurley and Brendan McCarthy. It also saw Keith White score an outstanding point following a great passage of play from Johnny Kelly. Unfortunately, Dohenys could not get the goal they neeed to properly reel in Douglas. They left the city content with the performance but disappointed with the result.

Half Time Score:- Douglas 0-7 v 0-4 Dohenys

Full Time Score:- Douglas 1-12 v Dohenys 0-10

Sunday 26/05/2019 Carbery- Beara Division 2 Football League DOHENYS v Goleen

The Doheny Junior Footballers resumed their Division 2 Football League campaign with a narrow home defeat to Goleen. Dohenys played some good attacking football in the opening half of the game- leading by five points at half time. Jerry McCarthy got the Doheny goal- cutely lobbing the Goleen keeper on his far post.

Disappointingly for Dohenys- the standard of their football fell significantly in the third quarter. On the resumption of the game in the Second Half- lack of focus and mistake ridden football cost Dohenys against a highly committed Goleen team. Capitalising on Doheny error after error- Goleen took control and took the lead in the game.

Credit to stand-in goalkeeper- Ray Jennings who made a brilliant point blank save to keep an out of sorts Dohenys in a position to salvage something from a game they had been in command of it.

Dohenys upped their performance somewhat towards the end of the game with Jack O Connell featuring prominently in an attempted Doheny revival. Unfortunately, despite pushing hard- Dohenys were unable to salvage anything from the game.

Half Time Score:- Dohenys 1-10 v 1-5 Goleen

Tuesday 28/05/2019 Carbery-Beara Division 2 Football League DOHENYS v St.Marys

The Doheny Junior Footballers secured a convincing win following an excellent team performance against near neighbours St. Marys in the Sam Maguire Park.

Dohenys began the game in flying form with Jack O Connell hammering the ball to the St. Marys net following some excellent hard running and carrying of the ball.

The stand-out performer for Dohenys was Cathal Daly at midfield who got through an awful amount of work. His performance was marked also by some excellent distribution of the ball. Daly was ably assisted at midfield by Decy Dwyer who also put in a strong performance.

The movement and link play of the Doheny forwards particularly that of Stephen O Donovan and Aidan O Donovan caused havoc for the Marys defence. When needed- good defending by Johnny Collins, Alan Murray, Tadhg O Leary, Noel Collins and Jason Daly stopped Marys from getting any foothold in the game.

In a very convincing and commanding win- the consistency of the Doheny performance over the 60 minutes was welcome.
