SENIOR FOOTBALL
Big game this weekend is the senior football championship clash with Na Piarsaigh which will be played in Kilmurry on Saturday evening with an 8 p.m. throw - in.This will be a tough one to get over as Dohenys have always found the city side difficult opponents and indeed have been beaten by them in their last two outings, in a K.S. final and in the championship about 5 years ago.  Dohenys’ preparations have been marred by injuries with Michael Milner, Micky Farr ,Donal O’Sullivan and Stephen O’ Donovan all on the treatment table while Dennis Lyons is on holidays and Patrick  Mc Carthy out of bounds. The team lost to Naomh Abhan in the first round, defeated Mallow in the second round without reaching their full potential but will have to be firing on all cylinders on this occasion if they are to advance to a quarter final meeting with Duhallow.
As always there is great speculation as to the team that will be selected with all of us wanting to pick our own, an easy task without   the pressure or  the responsibility of having it perform. Presuming that all players are fit lets speculate on what the team might be. Daragh Farr in goal. Right so far! Now the hard work starts. Conor Collins and Alan Murray in the corner back positions with the half back line consisting of kilian Crowley, Micheal o’ Donovan and Johnny Collins. The  fullback position is a difficult one to call. Micheal O’ Donovan played there against Ballyvourney, Alan Murray started there against Mallow with Paul Deane finishing there. Conor Collins has also played there as has Daniel O’ Donovan in recent games. We’ll opt for Paul Deane with big Dan in close contention. Centrefield is another area hard to call. Donal O’ Sullivan, Tim O’ Donovan, Michael Milner, Micky Farr and Pat Collins have all been played there at different times and all have plenty of experience of the position. To best utilise resources we’ll go for Tim O’Donovan and Micky Farr with Donal O’ Sullivan on the 40 if he is not partnering Satchy in the middle. That would leave Pat Collins and Michael Milner on the wings. The fullforward line might be a little easier to call with Denis Healy at fullforward and Gerard Mc Carthy in the left corner. The remaining position should lie between Jerry Mc Carthy and Stephen O’ Donovan but Denis O’ Mahony and Declan Dwyer have been establishing claims in recent games. We’ll go for Jerry. But then Micky Farr could also be there if big Donal starts at midfield while Paul Deane could also figure in the forwards if Dan returns to his old stomping ground. Or perhaps we should start all over again with Darren Kelly in goal and if if if if if if if.  The permutations are endless. This is what gives so much enjoyment to supporters where ever they meet in the days leading up to the big day.A hundred and one different teams will be picked but at the end of the day the only one that matters is the one choosen by the selectors!

JUNIOR  FOOTBALL
The junior footballers were in action in the league on Sunday morning last when Kilmacabea were visitors to the Sam Maguire Park. Dohenys were very much under-strength for the game               which made their task an impossible one against one of the strongest junior teams in the division. The home side had more than their share of possession in the first half when aided by the strong wind but they failed to turn this into scores having only 4 points on the board at the break. Kilmacabea were to finish very strongly kicking 2-5 in the last 10 minutes to win convincingly on a score of 4-10 to 0-5.
Team: Darren Kelly, Fachtna Mc Carthy,Fachtna Collins, Clement Deane, Tom Collins , Cathal Kelleher, Donal O’ Donovan, David Nyhan, Denis Lordan, David Collins, Stephie Collins, Alan Sheehan, Declan Dwyer, Cathal Crowley, James Collins,

SAM  MAGUIRES
Not a very busy week at under-age level. The under 16 footballers did play Canovee on Monday evening in a friendly game  and played some fine football to take the honours,
On Wednesday evening the lower pitch was a hive of activity with Maguires hosting Newcestown in U7 and U8 football matches. The results were of little consequence as participation was what was important.

LOTTO
There was no winner of the €1,600 jackpot in the club lotto on Sunday night last when the numbers drawn were 11,15, 22 . Winners of €50 each were Fergal Lyons, Prospect Lawn; Cathal Coakley, Chapel Street; Jessica O’ Flynn, Knockduv.
