The Clubs Annual General Meeting took place at The Pavilion on Sunday Dec. 4th. The meeting was opened and chaired by outgoing chairman Jerry O Mahony who outlined the historic aspect of the year past, it being the 125th anniversary of the founding of the club.
He thanked all those involved in the organizing of events to celebrate the occasion. He made particular reference to the clubs History Book of the the last twenty five years and paid tribute to Finbarr Hennessy who launched the book and Tom Lyons the editor. He referred to past and current developments within the club which were handled by a small dedicated group of members and to Mary Maybury who had the onerous task of scheduling time for fixtures and training in both playing pitches, considering the thirty four teams within the club. He thanked all those involved with the various teams, fellow club officers and those who helped the club in any way throughout the year. He concluded his address by requesting the club to encourage young people to get involved in all aspects of the club.
Outgoing secretary Caroline Collins gave a comprehensive and detailed report of club activities for the year. In conclusion she thanked those she worked with throughout the year and regretted she had to step down, due to personal circumstances. She recommended that the club should review the role of the position of secretary as it carries a large portfolio of work and by doing so may encourage more members to take it as a post.
Treasurer Kieran Farr reported on the financial activities for the past year and outlined the current situation of the club. He highlighted the various fund raising projects and pointed out that the clubs weekly lotto draw was the biggest fund raiser of the year. He suggested that every effort should be made to maintain its current form and to improve on it if possible.
Secretary Finbarr O Neill ,of the underage club Sam Maguires, gave a report on underage affairs and recorded that over 200 players from u6 to minor age were registered for the year 2011. All grades played both codes with the exception of the U15s who only played football.
