A large crowd travelled to Riverstick on Sunday last to support the U15 footballers in their County Premier 2 championship final. They were not disappointed as the team played superb football to win by the narrowest of margins. Sam Maguires were aware that they would have a tough task in front of them as they were up against Killeagh Itas who had already won the Premier 1 hurling championship. Sams were first to score when after three minutes of the throwin Aidan O Donovan found himself at the end of a swift move and he made no mistake finding the net. This was quickly followed by points from Jack O Connor and Dylon O Driscoll. With further points from Mark Buckley, Johnny Kelly, J.O Connor (2) Sams were in control leading by six points. However three consecutive frees in the last three minutes of the first half enabled Killeagh reduce the lead making the the halftime score 1-06 to 0-06. The second half was as intense as the first with Jamie Carroll and J.Kelly challenging to gain territorial advantage in the centrefield area. Play swayed from end to end and the backline of Darragh McCarthy, Sean Daly, Jonathan O Sullivan, Shane Crowley, Eoin Lavers M. Buckley had to defend stoutly to keep the Killeagh attack at bay. With ten minutes to go Sams held the lead by one point when goalkeeper Tom Murphy made the save of the game to turn an unstoppable shot out for a 45. This lifted Sams and when J. O Connor had his third point of the half Sams looked good entering the final minutes however they had to endure some anxious moments before the final whistle sounded on the score of 1-10 to 0-12. Forwards Cathal O Donovan, Liam Rice, Eoin Murray and replacement Padraigh Crowley also contributed bravely throughout the game.Team ; T. Murphy, D.McCarthy, S. Daly, J. O Sullivan, S. Crowley, E.
