125 Year Celebrations. 

Last weekend was a busy one for the club as it hosted a number of events in association with the 125 year celebration of its founding. On Thursday night at The Pavilion the 25year past history book was launched. Both Tom Lyons, author of the book, and Finbarr Hennessy, who performed the launching,were introduced to the large gathering by Club Chairman Jerry O Mahony. They outlined the highs and lows of the period and remarked on the success of the the underage Sam Maguires. They also pointed to the steady progress of the footballers and hurlers throughout the period. The footballers were relegated to playing junior football in the early eighties but contested a senior county final in 2006. The hurlers  struggled in the junior B grade during this period but were County and Munster champions by 2007. They also contested the last two South West junior A finals. The book is a must read for anyone associated with Dohenys or Sam Maguires and contains detailed records plus numerous photos of the past 25years.

Football Challenge

On Saturday there was a coming together of the County Junior Football Champions of 1993 and the present day player selection at Sam Maguire Park. The veterans displayed there old flare and contested on equal terms with their much younger peers. Though the final score of 1-06 to 0-08 in favour of  the '93 side was hotly disputed both sides with mentors of both teams retired to the Pavilion for a welcomed social evening

That night a Gala Function was held at The Parkway Hotel where the attendance, which included special guests Michael McCarthy TD, Jim Daly TD, Declan Hurley MCC, Bob Ryan Chairman Elect Cork Co.Board, Declan Walsh Chairman South West Board, Aidan O Rourke, Chairman West Region Coiste na Og. Fr.Ted Collins P.P.,  was addressed by President Elect of C.L.G. Liam O Neill. who acknowledged the work that the club had done within the community for the past 125 years. He also felt privileged be in the in the hometown of Sam Maguire  After the formalities a very enjoyable night was had by all.

U15 Football

With playing activities at adult level completed for the year the u15 footballers were successful in their premier 2 championship game when they defeated Kilmacabea under lights at Clonakilty last week. This was a powerful display by Sam  Maguires to overcome a fancied Kilmacbea side.  The halftime score was Sams 0-07 to 0-04. Early in the second half they scores two goals which laid the foundation for a comfortable win on the score of 3-10 to 1-08.

As a result of this win the team have qualified for the county final but may have to wait to the end of November to know their opponents.

The U13 footballers were also in action last weekend and defeated Midleton in the quarterfinal of the premier county league
     
 Lotto
 
The numbers drawn in the weekly lotto were 6.15.36. There was no winner of the jackpot of €2,000. Prizes of €50 were won by Jack Farr, Coll Barra, Kathleen Hickey, Derrinasafa, Tom Dennehy, The Castle. The jackpot next week will be €2,200 and the draw will be in The Pavilion on Sunday night

The clubs A.G.M. will take place at The Pavilion on Sunday December 4th. at 3pm.
