U21 Hurlers

This game was to be played at Ballinacarriga but was transferred, at late notice, due to weather conditions. The Newcestown club are to be complimented for hosting the game as they had a very important senior football championship game in Clonakilty the same evening. Facing the elements in  the second half  they defended  their lead playing defensive and determined hurling to finish winners on the score of 2-09 to 0-08. They now advance to the semifinal of the county as they got a bye in the quarterfinal.

Sam Maguire Weekend

The weekend was a  busy one for the club. On Friday evening there was a colourful parade of flags, through the town, by the youth of the Sam Maguire club to open the the Sam Maguire Festival  weekend. Though the weather was not favourable, it did not deter the boys and girls from displaying their entertainment talents in the Pavilion after the offical opening by Conor Counihan Cork county football manager, who added to the occasion, with his words of encouragement for both young and old. On Saturday and Sunday the  games in both hurling and football were well supported by neighbouring clubs and those who travelled long distances. The Pavilion had a full house on Saturday night  for a comical evening wih Santa Ponsza or Bust and enjoyable time was had by all. On Sunday morning Cork County Board vicechairman Bob Ryan performed the wreath laying at the memorial ceremony in St.Marys churchyard, the burial place of Sam Maguire. The weekend was completed with a  traditional evening at the home of Sam maguire in Mallabraca.
