Senior Football Relegation Playoff

The senior footballers maintained their senior status for 2012 when they had a convincing win over Valley Rovers, in a relegation playoff, at Kilmichael on Saturday evening last.It was Valley Rovers who took the initiative and went two points clear after eight minutes. Dohenys were slow to get into their rythm in this game and it was eighteen minutes before J.McCarthy opened their scoring with a point. Two more followed from T. Collins and S.Collins and a goal by Jack O Connell left them leading at halftime on the score of 1-03 to 0-03. Though Valley Rovers had the first score of the secondhalf it was Dohenys who took control in the midfield area. With the halfforward line working back Dohenys rearguard  stifled any danger and confined the opposition to ony one point in the second half. After a series of some fine scores from play Dohenys were well in control entering the final quarter of the game. A further goal by O Connell sealed the result and they finished  winners on the score of 2.11 to 0. 04. This was a fine team performance and brought a great sense of relief to all concerned as it was vital to maintain senior staus in the year of the 125th. anniversary of the club.
