Senior footballer’s last chance to remain in the championship went a begging on Sunday evening. Dohenys were in control for most of the first half with the wind to their backs. Jerry Mc Carthy opened the score with a point in the sixth minute. Doheny’s found it very difficult to get scores but however Jack O’ Connell was well alert to bounce on to a rebound from an effort from Patrick Mc Carthy to score his first goal in senior championship. It took St. Nicks almost twenty minutes to open the score with a point. By this time Doheny’s should have a substantially score built up at this stage if Doheny’s had converted their mischance’s. St. Nicks gained momentum coming up to half time and added two further points to the scoreboard which left the score Doheny’s 1-3 St. Nicks 3pts. St Nicks came out a different team in the second half showing more determination and took the game to Doheny’s. When St. Nicks scored a goal five minutes into the second half they were right back in the game. Doheny’s added some great scores through Jer McCarthy, Tom Collins, and Donal O’ Sullivan, Patrick McCarthy and Maurice Murphy making his debut. However this was not to be enough as St. Nicks scored their second goal with five or six minutes to go. Doheny’s managed to pull the lead back to come within one point of St. Nicks. They had a chance to level up the match in the last few seconds but luck wasn’t to be.

Sam Maguire Notes
Well done to the Minor Footballers on achieving a great result last Friday night in very bad conditions. The experience they gained in 2010 was a huge factor in their confidence and the way they played. With some outstanding new players coming on the team this year this team has the potential to go another step forward.
The U13 hurlers continue their winning formula in the league. With championship coming up in a few weeks this was a great preparation.
