Ursula Broderick | Monday 16 July 2012
Match was played Wednesday the 11th July at Keelnameela. Kick off was 8pm.
The U16 Doheny Ladies had a great win over Keelnameela in their first league game back after the exam break. It was a very close match with both sides producing some excellent scores, but Doheny's defence dug deep, with some great saves by keeper Tegan Hurley, assisted by full back Denise O' Donavan who pulled off a fantastic block, to keep Dohenys ahead by one goal and winners of this league encounter.
They were 3-5 to 2-6 behind going into the second half but within minutes of the restart rattled the Keelnameela net with three successive goals. Keelnameela responded with some lovely scores but the damage was done and Dohenys ran out winners on a score line of 6-9 to 5-9.
Libby Bluett, Ciara Crowley, Tara Murray and Michelle Duggan were all solid in defence, while Michaela McCarthy and Melissa Duggan worked tirelessly in midfield. Annie Bluett was very effective on the wing alongside Catriona Farrell and captain Dearbhal Kearns, while Lori Hayes, Alannah Hurley and Eileen Crowley worked really well in the corner forward line.
The Doheny Ladies Football club wish the team even more success in their future matches.
