Playing Activities:
Both the Seniors &Juniors are in championship action this weekend. The Juniors are out first on Friday evening, 21st in Castletownkenneigh at 8pm in the replay of their 1st round championship match with St. Colums. If this rematch is only half as good as their first encounter we are in for an exciting spectacle. Preparations for this replay have gone reasonably well in recent weeks with 2 impressive wins over Goleen on a score-line of 3-12 to 10 points and Castletownbere on a score-line of 1-10 to 1-08 in challenge games. Unfortunately due to inclement weather their fixture over the past weekend had to give way.
The Seniors are set to play Bishopstown this Monday evening, 24th in Macroom at 7.30pm in the Senior Football Championship. Both teams obviously lost their opening championship matches against O’Donovan Rossa & Ilen Rovers respectively and both teams are out to prove a point and to avoid the bear pit of a relegation battle. Bishopstown have had the upper hand in this fixture in recent years winning in 09 & 11 but hopefully the tables will turn this Monday evening. Bishopstown are a big, physical team and it’s in the best interest of the Dohenys to keep the game open and at a fast pace. The Seniors league form has been wishy-washy since the 1st round championship match, beating Nemo Rangers & losing to Newmarket. They also had two decent run outs in challenge games beating Macroom and more recently drawing to Douglas which should stand to the team in good stead.
Your support would be greatly welcome on both evenings. Dohenys abu!
