Golf Classic:
The club will hold its annual Golf Classic at Skibbereen
golf club on Saturday, June 10th. This event has been one of the main
fundraisers for the adult and under-age clubs over the years and has been very
successful financially due mainly to the generous support of its sponsors as
well as the support from golfers from far and wide.
The main event sponsor this year is Richard Galvin of
Centra/Topaz & the Club would sincerely like to thank him for his
generosity. If interested in entering a team of 3 players at a cost of
€150 please contact Tony Walsh 087-2021593/Declan Lavers 087-2226959. If
interested in sponsoring a Tee-box at cost of €50 please contact the
aforementioned or any club executive member.
Junior A Hurlers:
The players & the Clubs’ focus have switched from the
large to the small ball these weeks as the Doheny Junior A Hurlers are in
championship action this coming weekend. The Doheny hurlers will take on
near neighbours St. Marys in Round 1 of the RCM Tarmacadam Junior A Hurling
Championship in Ballinacarriga this Saturday 13th at 3.45pm.
The reason for this fixture being played in mid afternoon on Saturday is due to
St. Mary’s having a number of players involved with the Carbery division
footballers who are fixed to replay Ilen Rovers in round 1 of the county senior
football championship on Sunday.
The Doheny Junior A Hurlers got their league campaign
underway last Tuesday evening playing Diarmuid O’Mathunas in Castletown.
This game ended in stalemate Dohenys 1-13 Mathunas 0-16. The Dohenys were
fast out of the blocks in this encounter & dominated the first half
proceedings to lead at half time 1-07 to 0-04. Mathunas rallied in
the second half to level matters with 10 minutes remaining. Unfortunately
for the Dohenys men they spurned a few chances late on to win the match.
However the Dohenys can be encouraged by their first outing of the
season. Star man on the night was Jerry McCarthy who score 1-12 of the
Dohenys total with Cathal O’Donovan chipping in with the other Doheny score.
